Tips for looking after your Roof
Inspect your roof regularly
The best way to catch any potential problems early is to inspect your roof regularly. Look for any cracked or broken tiles, rusted sheets, or areas where the roof may be sagging. You should also check for any signs of water damage, such as small water stains appearing on your ceiling or walls.
Clean your gutters
Gutters play a vital role in directing water away from your home, so it's important to keep them clear of any debris. Leaves, sticks, and other debris can accumulate in your gutters over time, causing them to clog. It is also important to understand that leaves and sticks decompose and turns into soil which stays damp speeding up the corrosion process causing rust in your gutters. This can lead to water damage to your eaves, fascia and possibly inside your ceiling. Make sure to clean your gutters at least twice a year.
Trim overhanging trees
Trees provide shade and are a beautiful addition to your home, but they can also damage your roof if they're too close. Overhanging branches can scratch your roof or cause damage during a storm. Make sure to trim any branches that are overhanging your roof to prevent any damage.
Fix any leaks promptly
If you notice any signs of a leak, such as water stains on your ceiling or walls, don't wait to get it fixed. Even small leaks can cause significant damage over time. Call a professional roofer to inspect your roof and fix any leaks as soon as possible. Consider getting your roof professionally cleaned
Over time, your roof can accumulate dirt, grime, and algae. This not only looks unsightly, but it can also damage your roof. Professional roof cleaning can remove any buildup and help extend the life of your roof. (Please note Jeff’s Metal Roofing does not provide this service).
Rust prevention
Rusty roof sheets can be prevented by regularly inspecting the roof for signs of rust and taking steps to address it. Make sure to clean the roof regularly and remove any debris, such as leaves and dirt, that can cause corrosion and rust.
Corrosion on Colorbond Wall Cladding
In Albany, Denmark area we get a lot of salt spray from the ocean, to prevent corrosion on wall cladding it is a great habit to regularly hose down Colorbond wall cladding, especially in the areas where the rain can’t wash the walls down. These areas are called ‘unwashed areas’ and are very susceptible to fast growing corrosion. I would recommend hosing your wall cladding down at least once every 3 months to stop the build-up of dirt and salt spray which is the biggest destroyer of Colorbond. If your house is exposed to the ocean, I would recommend cleaning your walls even more frequently. (Rainwater with no cleaning products, is the best for cleaning).
